Ambition

The challenge

Global aviation accounts for approximately 2.1% of CO2 emissions worldwide increase in air traffic. To achieve the EU environmental goals by 2050, extreme upgrades have been brought forward over the last decade in terms of:

Energy efficiency

Reduction of the environmental impact

Increased passenger safety

It gets tougher…

The prognostics reveal that higher air-traffic demand renders unavoidable aircraft optimization by:

Customizing scheduled maintenance via the generation of accurate and continuous information on the health and usage condition of the aircraft structures

Diagnosing the residual useful life while verifying the fast and reliable definition of remedial strategies

Enhancing the overall aircraft lifecycle together with the future reuse of components and systems

Last but not least, the airworthiness of the aircraft requires the adoption of more robust and efficient repairing processes, capable to ensure the integrity and quality of the repair along with the residual service life of the aircraft. In this context, the implementation of novel holistic and circular approaches exploits:

Artificial Intelligence

Internet of Things

Mobile and ubiquitous tools

Robotics solutions

These approaches will offer the European aeronautics industry and the whole aviation ecosystem the opportunity to maintain their global competitiveness and leadership while moving towards climate neutrality.

Our Main Goal

The main goal of GENEX is to develop a novel end-to-end digital twin-driven framework providing:

a holistic approach covering the whole value chain of composite parts, from design, material, and manufacturing to operation, MRO, and EOL to support the next-generation digital aircraft transformation

Our goal will be achieved by launching the following game-changers:

Advanced physical and data-driven simulations of the composite manufacturing and repair processes

Innovative in-line process monitoring systems for measuring the manufacturing quality

Optimized on-board and on-site sensors for structural health and usage monitoring

Enhanced computational modeling of fatigue damage

Advanced digital-based tools and methods for improving maintenance and repairing
